End of Term 2 Update

The blog slipped with such a busy end of term...
Here's a few of the MANY things that went on... 

We had a great Round 1 of tournaments - children could opt into soccer, indoor netball or basketball. There they were put into teams and had to choose managers, coaches, assistant coaches, captains, water boys and cheerleaders. Children had to run their own drills and teach each other new skills and drills. They competed in the "Tapatoru Team CUP!" - what a great event!

To finish off inquiry about energy and what food we need to fuel our bodies - we had to organise and pack our own lunch before a massive 2 and half walk! It definitely beat watching a movie on the last day!

Some children from tapatoru visit the kindy once a week and leade jump jam. The kindy kids love it! Often chanting "JUMP JAM JUMP JAM" on a Monday.

Some V3 kids had a go at making a food pyramid on the ipad..

What a treat - the Phoenix were having a training at the pool while we were there! Quite a few signatures were gained and many chats were had!

We love our Literature Circles. We take turns practicing different reading strategies when we have different roles. We practice making connections, summarising, questioning, visualising, thinking critically and building vocab.

Week 3 madness

Wow what a busy, busy week!

So much to talk about - so many cool things going on.

Let's start from the beginning..

Cross country - what a success for V3!

Everyone in V3 ran well, all that training paid off. A special mention to Joseph, Hollie, Sofia, Olle, Jimmy and Jaymie who qualified for the Southern Zones! Wahooooo!

On Wednesday we went to the Police College - such a great experience. We got to take and analyse fingerprints, solve a mystery using clues from around the police museum, try on police gear and listened to interesting stories from criminals in the past. 

On Thursday we went swimming - we are loving our learn to swim and extension programmes. Here's a pic of the diving group warming up before they get into the water!

On top of all of this exciting out of the classroom stuff, we have also been doing some great learning inside the classroom. We are currently writing beautiful character descriptions about people we care about. So far we have written about their physical and behavioural characteristics.

We have also been analysing soil and torn paper. The microscopes were a great way to look at the fibre inside the paper. 

Phewf! I'm exhausted! Week 3 nearly done and dusted. This term is going tooooo fast!

We are great mathematicians!

Wow! What a feat! V3 have made it into the top 50 schools in New Zealand in our first week! We are so proud!! We aim to keep moving up the ranks with lots more maths - well done V3!!!!

Taking and observing shoeprints

5 OF MAY 2014         V3 have learnt to tell the differences and similarities of shoe prints. 

                                      HOW TO DO THIS: 

First you need a clear work space.

Second cover your work space in flour, half a cup will do it.

Third get a peace of paper to flatten the flour.

Fourthly take off one of your shoes.

Next place your shoe gently on the flour then push firmly and take off lightly.

Finally: Compare to other shoeprints. What are the similarities? What are the differences??

We have been writing reports based on the stolen necklace. We then had to act out our report on puppet pals. This one is by Jaymie and Sofia, I will try and get the rest up in the holidays!!

Last day of Term 1

Wow, how the term has flown by....
What a great last day V3 had together! We started the day by learning about QR Codes and had an Easter Egg treasure hunt by using the app "I-Nigma" to find clues and letters. We scanned the QR Codes and these gave us clues - what a fun way to have a treasure hunt with our buddies!

We then had a great time in the hall playing battleships and returned to write learning reflections about the things we have learnt this term.

We finished the day off with a movie as a way to celebrate our 2000 blog hits! Lucky V3!!
